Hey Everyone,

I was lucky enough to make it over to see some cross racing on the Island this Sunday. I was a great race on a super course!! Congrats to Trevor Jones for coming second in the Intermediate race. He is currently sitting in first on the series too!

Here's a photo gallery I put together of the pictures I took. It's mostly the 3 or 4 club guys, but it's fun to look at!!

Cheers,
-Chris

Great pix! By "cross" racing, is that shorthand for cyclocross or does it mean more than one type of race at once? There is one guy on an MTB but adding to the confusion I understand that MTBs are allowed in some CX races. :?

Even if I never race, I can't wait to get a CX bike. 8)

Hey Murray,

I guess I should have written 'cross because I certainly meant cyclocross, just to lazy to write it!!

Most race series allow mountain bikes up to a certain level. For example, on the mainland you can race an MTB in the "C" category (beginners). For A and B UCI rules apply which means no MTBs and no disc brakes.

On the Island it's more relaxed. From what I understand you can run disc brakes in all the categories, and I think maybe even an MTB in all the categories. I personally think this is a great idea because it guarantees a better turn out at the races. Once you get to a certain level you are going to want a 'cross bike any how, so this more lax approach allows more people try it out and get hooked (and believe me, you alway do ;) ).

Cheers,
-Chris

It appears to be lots of fun. Perhaps we should do some racing next year.

I don't know the reasons for excluding disc brakes. Is it because CX bikes generally have rim brakes and disc brakes would give an advantage to a select few until they're universal? Since everything evolves maybe eventually there won't be restrictions.

One thing's for sure. My CX will have disc brakes. 8)
